Frequently asked questions
Where can I download AlbumTrail?
AlbumTrail is now available for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad with iOS / iPadOS 17 or later. No TestFlight invitation or AlbumTrail account is needed. The App Store page shows availability in your region.
Do I need to sign in to AlbumTrail?
No. Browsing, search, organizing, maps and tips do not require an AlbumTrail account. Optional iCloud backup uses the system iCloud account on your phone; the App Store handles purchases. Neither requires a separate AlbumTrail sign-in.
Where can I find the getting-started guide?
A small hint points to the guide on first use and dismisses when you tap elsewhere. The full guide does not open automatically; find it in Profile → User Guide whenever you need it. Before the first photo permission request, the app explains its purpose. Full access enables the complete library and system albums, while limited access still lets you organize selected photos.
Why were some photos left after a batch deletion?
Some items may already be deleted, no longer authorized or not deletable by the app, such as some photos synced from a computer. AlbumTrail attempts to continue with deletable items and reports incomplete results, subject to Apple’s confirmation and actual outcome. Cancellation, permission changes or other errors can stop the operation. Read the result and review the remaining items before trying again.
Why can a city or district name differ from a map label?
Places matches photo locations to administrative regions. Map labels can show cities, neighborhoods or landmarks at different zoom levels, while the place list uses the selected administrative level. The current version improves older names and localization, but coverage and data age can still affect results. For a clearly misplaced region, report the city and steps; private original photos are not needed.
What if iCloud backup fails or restored photos are missing?
Check that the phone is signed in to iCloud, has storage available and is online, then check the last completed backup time. Missing photos after restoration can mean originals have not synced or photo permission is limited. Organization backups do not transfer originals. Confirm that the originals appear in Apple Photos, then return to AlbumTrail and allow matching to finish.
Do tips unlock features, and can I request a refund?
Tips are optional, unlock no extra features, do not renew automatically and include no physical goods. Mainland China tiers are CNY 6, 18, 38 and 108; the App Store confirmation sheet shows the actual amount and currency. TestFlight purchases do not incur charges. Refund requests for real purchases go through Apple. Do not pay again while confirmation or verification is pending.
Does deleting an AlbumTrail album delete my originals?
Not by default. Deleting an album or removing a photo from it changes only the organization relationship. Original-photo deletion is requested only after you explicitly choose it and complete Apple’s system confirmation. If iCloud Photos is enabled, the deletion may sync to other devices.
Why can AlbumTrail see only some of my photos?
You may have granted limited photo access in iOS. Manage your selection in “Profile → Photo access” or change it in iOS settings. Listing system albums requires full access; limited access still lets you organize the photos you authorized.
Does search send my photos to an AI service?
Text and image recognition use Apple Vision and models included with the app on your device. Photo content and search text are not uploaded to cloud recognition services. Models update with the app; there is no separate download or recognition-mode selector. Read the details in Profile → Privacy. Results can be incomplete or incorrect; Chinese descriptions can combine with capture dates, verified locations, custom album membership, organization status and exact image text. Video-frame search is not supported. Recognition does not download iCloud originals by default. You can choose to allow downloads in search settings.
Why are no photos showing on the map?
The map keeps your chosen scope while it remains valid; use the top selector to choose an album. Memories shows photo locations, Places shows covered regions, and Journeys shows an ordered trip. Photos without a recorded capture location, without permission or that have been deleted will not appear. Also check that “Show locations” is enabled. Map tiles and place names need a network connection, but the feature does not need your phone’s live location.
Why are some photos not counted in Places?
Photos without a capture location cannot be matched to a region. Photos with locations that have not yet been matched have coordinates, but no successful match at the selected country, province or city level. Boundary coverage, accuracy or missing files can affect this. An unlit region does not prove you have never visited it.
How do I share the complete Places map?
Open Export & Share in Places, choose the complete map or current view, and check the preview. Select 3:4, 4:3 or 1:1 and the content to display, then save the image or open the system share sheet. Memories and Journeys use the same preview and export flow. A few omitted map photos do not block export.
Why is the scanned count higher than the result count?
The candidate scan counter tracks processing within the current filters and includes cached recognition. The photo count below it is the number of matches. Library search initially covers the past year; in-album search covers all dates. You can adjust the filters. Results must satisfy the combined conditions.
What if the first search is slow or my phone gets warm?
The first scan builds a local index that later searches can reuse. Speed depends on your device, photo count, iCloud downloads and temperature. Scanning slows as the device warms and waits for cooling when it gets too hot. You can pause and continue after cooling; repeatedly clearing the search cache will require recognition again.
Why is a photo unavailable or taking time to share?
An original photo, video or Live Photo may be stored only in iCloud and need a system download before opening or sharing. Check your connection and whether it opens in Apple Photos, then try AlbumTrail again. The destination app may also affect the shared format and number of received items.
How can I clear AlbumTrail’s data?
Go to “Profile → Storage”. You can clear the search cache, clean temporary sharing files, or clear all AlbumTrail albums, notes, preferences and caches. Clearing app data turns off automatic backup but does not delete originals, favorites or existing iCloud organization backups. Delete cloud backups separately in Profile → iCloud Backup. The privacy policy explains each action.
Will my albums automatically return on a new phone?
Back up in Profile → iCloud Backup on the old phone and confirm the completion time. Use the same system iCloud account on the new phone, then choose a backup to restore in AlbumTrail. Restoration merges albums and notes while preserving local content. Original photos are not included: transfer them through iCloud Photos or another method and grant photo access. Unmatched references remain until photos sync. Verify recovery before clearing the old phone.
Who can help with privacy, deletion or a child’s information?
Email alonicatrail@gmail.com with the affected feature and what you would like to do. Do not send passwords, verification codes or your entire library. For data stored only on your device, you can also follow the privacy policy’s instructions.
